The manual can be used by firearms instructors as a handy reference guide and also as a way of keeping all firearms outlines in one simple format. By preparing the manual in this fashion, instructor outlines are easily accessible should a class be challenged by the legal system. In addition, the manual can be used as a text for firearms instructor initial certification classes. Once a new instructor completes a basic certification course, he or she will have a complete set of outlines that can be used for teaching classes. The first four outlines in the manual (role of the firearms instructor, safety responsibilities, record keeping, and discipline) are generally used during instructor development classes. The rest of the outlines can be used in instructor development classes, basic recruit classes, and classes designed for in-service personnel. Some of the outlines can be used for general firearms qualifications, while others are used to teach specific skills, such as linear and lateral movements, how to deal with multiple attackers, civil liability, firearms maintenance, fundamentals of marksmanship, target analysis, combat and survival shooting techniques, special weapons, and chemical agents.
