This volume presents a conceptual framework--the internalization model--for understanding the effects of sexual abuse on a child's sense of self and describes psycho-dynamic trauma-focused therapy for children, adolescents, and parents.
Abstract
Issues covered in the volume are those of children who have gone through the experience of sexual abuse, issues that need to be considered by therapists who work with such children. Techniques center on recognizing and addressing the trauma internalized from sexual abuse, based on the child's unique perceptions and the family experience. Volume chapters deal with understanding the child's trauma, therapy to address the child's internalizations, placing sexual abuse in context, dissociation, sexuality, resistance, and adolescent experiences.
