This manual attempts to orient supervisors to processes important to the success of multisystemic therapy (MST), therapist adherence, and child/family outcome.
Abstract
The manual describes the rationale for the structure and process of MST supervision, a rationale that emphasizes the efficiency and goal-oriented nature of supervision and describes the establishment of overarching treatment goals. It also notes the key indexes of family engagement and suggests avenues for the supervisor to pursue when these indexes are absent. The manual also provides criteria for evaluating whether clinicians understand the “fit” of identified problems and recommends strategies for determining the barriers to understanding this concept and corresponding solutions. In addition, it provides guidance for implementing interventions and addresses barriers to effective implementation. The manual stresses that the development of the therapist’s capacity to implement MST effectively is a developmental process in which the supervisor plays a critical role. Figures, references
