The strategic agenda for the Arizona judicial branch ("Justice 2002") encompasses protecting children, families, and communities; providing access to swift, fair justice; connecting with the community; and being accountable. Achievements include the construction and renovation of juvenile detention facilities throughout the State; the implementation of a Model Court designed to reduce the time dependent children remain in out-of-home placement; successful operation of adult and juvenile drug courts; and a performance audit that indicates probation, coupled with substance abuse treatment, reduces recidivism. Steps have been taken to reduce delays in criminal justice processing, and technology advances continue in the information field to provide greater access and accountability in Arizona's courts. The attorney discipline process has improved, and comprehensive enforcement has boosted collections for money obligations of probationers. The judicial performance review process was improved, and operational reviews were expanded. Court statistics cover the fiscal year from July 1, 1998, through June 30, 1999. Data address case filings by court level and the number of offenders under court jurisdiction. A statewide revenue and expenditure summary is also provided.
