Speakers included the Home Office Under Secretary of State, a Drug Action Team chair and director of local housing and social services, a police official, and others. Speakers reported that Drug Action Teams have the potential to increase community safety, described the approach called Communities That Care in the United States, discussed challenges involved in interagency collaboration to address drug abuse, and presented the perspectives of the police and other agencies. Participants also described examples of current programs. These include the Bury Drug Action Team/community Network Safety, community consent and policing in Camden, the Aberfeldy Project in East London, the Northumbria Community Safety Strategy, and a low-cost drug prevention campaign in Northumbria. 18 references
