The three chapters in Part One, "A Philosophical and Professional Framework for Correctional Counseling," explore the personal dimension of correctional counseling, the various purposes of correctional counseling, and the world of corrections from the perspective of the correctional counselor. The two chapters of Part Two, "Offender Assessment, Diagnosis, and Classification," discuss how these tasks can be achieved by clinical identification of mentally ill offenders and the systematic testing or screening of all correctional clients for risk potential.
