This research modified the sheet printing method (SPM) developed by Leszczynski and commonly used for determining shooting distance by using a plastic-based photographic paper instead of cellulose hydrate foil as a substrate for the transfer of metallic gunshot elements from cloth.
Abstract
The research took place in Sweden. Results of testing of this modified SPM in more than 100 shooting experiments saved time and had several additional advantages over the SPM method. Colored spots that indicated a positive reaction for lead appeared clearly on the white paper background; even weak spots were visible. This method also simplified the whole procedure for the determining shooting distance due to the use of the same desensitized photopaper for SPM, the Modified Griess Test, and the copper/nickel test method. The process used in the research laboratory for desensitizing photopaper was automatic and handled about 50 papers in 5 minutes, including the time for drying.
