The suspect claimed that the unlabeled bottle was cleaner for the tape head of a video cassette recorder. Results of the crime laboratory analysis revealed no controlled substances. However, the analysis identified the liquid as impure cyclohexyl nitrite, a compound of the same chemical class as amyl and butyl nitrite, which are known for their abuse potential. A bottle labeled cyclohexyl nitrite, but not confirmed by analysis, is the only known previous case submitted to this crime laboratory. Figures and 5 references (Author abstract modified)
