Abstract
This CD-ROM contains five training "zones," each focusing on an aspect of information sharing between community police officers and probation officers. Training zone one, "Bridging the Information Gap," provides instruction in some of the ways probation officers and police officers can work together to design a more proactive approach to protecting the public. The focus of this partnership is on sharing information to benefit both probation and police officers. Training zone two describes the purpose of zone supervision for probation officers. This involves placing probation officers in assigned areas based on offender demographics, neighborhood boundaries, geographical considerations, and law enforcement jurisdiction. The benefits of zone supervision are discussed. Training zone three describes the characteristics of the community policing model compared with the traditional policing model. This training zone includes a discussion of field intervention reports (FIRs), which a community police officer completes after every contact with a citizen who is acting suspiciously. These FIRs are shared with probation agencies, so that they may screen these contacts to determine whether or not the police contact involved a probationer whose activity may involve a probation violation. Training zone five provides a summary of the principles taught in the curriculum, followed by a simulation zone that involves interactive testing of what has been learned by using two case studies. Interactive tests are provided for each training zone.
