The KI 2 Group is responsible for the development of new technology for police (detective) application through market analysis, technical assistance for the user, research and development, and the testing of commercial technology. KI 2 also collaborates with appropriate agencies in developing standards for police investigations. KI 2 uses a team of scientists in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, and communication technology, together with engineers, detectives, technicians, and programmers. This team develops new technical methods and resources for modern crime-fighting. Among the investigative procedures that are the focus of KI 2 work are fingerprints; electronic surveillance; location and navigation; detection; and weapons, accessories, and ballistic protection. In an effort to counter the development of new criminal methods in a technological age KI 2 has focused on the development of evidence-gathering methods for computer-related crime. In addition to computer crime, KI 2 is concerned with criminal organizations' use of modern information and communication technology in planning, executing, and concealing crimes. This booklet describes some of the specific work KI 2 is doing in the aforementioned areas.
