This report details the structure, operations, and accomplishments of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC)during fiscal year 1999 and presents a statistical overview of agency expenditures, offenders, and offenses.
Abstract
The discussion notes that Ohio received recognition in January as one of two States to become entirely accredited by the American Correctional Association. This included all prisons, boot camps, parole and probation supervision, the Ohio Parole Board, the Corrections Training Academy, Ohio Penal Industries and Central Office. The DRC continued to incorporate community justice activities into daily operations and promoted victims' justice, and offender redress in adult corrections. A balance of prison construction, support of community sanctions for nonviolent offenders, and coordination resulted in the successful management of the offender population. DRC also carried out its legal mandate and conducted the State’s first execution since 1963. Figures, tables, and photographs
