The paper includes the project management focus, structure of management, performance and output measures, and brief descriptions of a sample of projects being implemented, developed, or proposed as part of the Fairfield City Council Crime Prevention Program. A survey of Fairfield residents identified their main areas of concern as theft and burglary, violence and vandalism on the streets, and domestic violence. Safety and environmental issues were seen as interrelated with other issues, including crime, drugs, and health. The City Council Crime Prevention Program focused on: (1) reducing the fear of crime and improving public awareness of crime prevention; (2) increasing inter-agency partnerships and collaboration; (3) improving the physical environment and infrastructure systems; and (4) supporting community development programs. The success of the 3 year program will be measured in terms of performance measures including the sustainable reduction in the levels of crime per 100,000 people, improved perceptions of neighborhood safety, and implementation of crime prevention projects.
