This article is an introductory account of the sociological treatment of political and urban violence in contemporary Spanish society.
Abstract
A brief social-historical detour establishes the role of political violence in the creation of successive political regimes. In the same way, a strong cultural heritage of political violence helps explain the relative lack of urban violence in the French case. The author believes terrorism in the Basque area of Spain and the development of xenophobic attitudes stemming from ultra groups of football fans are fostering the development of a differentiated form of urban violence. 43 references
