In highlighting the Division's work in 1999, the Superintendent notes the technological advances that were made over the past year. The Division recently implemented a Records Management System, which is a type of software package that has put the Division at the forefront of law enforcement computer technology. In addition, computers have been installed in several of the cruisers, thereby allowing troopers instant access to critical information on wanted persons, registry data, and criminal histories. Further, the paperless warrant system implemented by the Technical Advisory Committee has allowed the Division to make better use of valuable time. The Division continues its emphasis on training personnel through a mandatory 40-hour in-service training each year, supplemented by increased specialized training for uniformed and detective personnel. The Division also continues to emphasize its highway safety mission with increased efforts in detection and apprehension of impaired drivers and in its education and enforcement of the seat belt laws.
