This report presents statistics on the average daily population in Virginia Department of Corrections institutions during October 2000, as well as caseloads for probation and parole in the State during the same month.
Abstract
The average number of offenders for which the State of Virginia was responsible was 27,246 in October 2000. This number represented a decrease of 0.05 percent from the 27,259 average inmate population in custody the pervious month and a 1 percent increase from the average population a year earlier. The average number of out-of-State offenders housed in contract beds was 3,294. The probation and parole caseload of 38,569 included 5,253 active parolees and 33,316 active probationers.
