The report includes qualitative research on innovative sentencing, corrections, and diversion practices. It is intended to be an inventory of selected practices with in-depth investigation of those practices that meet specified criteria. The eight practices studied in-depth include: (1) Changing Lives Through Literature (sentencing); (2) Close Custody Phase Program (corrections); (3) Healing Sentencing Circles (sentencing); (4) Moral Reconation Therapy (corrections); (5) Multisystemic Therapy (sentencing); (6) Operation Night Light (corrections); (7) Predispositional Supervision (sentencing); and (8) Woodbury Family Group Conferencing (diversion). The report also includes a listing of 134 practices reviewed, and describes developing the means to collect information for analysis in future research. Future research may analyze the legal or social environment that contributes to the effectiveness of various practices, legislative practices, law enforcement prevention practices, or practices from other segments of the legal system, as well as the results of any qualitative and quantitative analyses.
