This paper describes the new Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Criminal Intelligence Analysis Understudy Program and explains how it replaced a fragmented approach to training in intelligence analysis and assessment to address new challenges posed by organized crime and terrorism.
Abstract
Candidates for this program are all members of the RCMP assigned to uniformed or civilian analytical positions within the national Criminal Intelligence Program. The Understudy Program has three major components designed to provide candidates with the theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to perform the duties of a criminal intelligence analyst within the RCMP. The usual training period lasts 20-24 months and begins immediately upon the candidate’s start of duties. Overall, the program offers a more comprehensive and effective training model than did the previous piecemeal approach to training. Figure
