The manual aims to enable users to describe different ways people can learn and use information, use different approaches to teach crime prevention information to peers, and design and teach a 30-minute crime prevention session. The guidelines also aim to help peer educators strengthen their presentation and delivery of information to peers, learn ways to deal with peers who are not excited about learning how they can prevent crime, and identify places in the community to learn more about crime prevention. The introduction notes that teenagers are more likely than adults to be crime victims and that 7 of 10 crimes committed against teenagers happen at school, on the street, or at a park or playground.
