This book presents information that officers can use to provide security for the correctional institution and to safely deal with inmates.
Abstract
The book's target audience is the men and women who work daily in jails, prisons, and community corrections facilities. The book is designed as a training aid for entry level and in-service training with the following goals: (1) to be a training resource for agency training and staff instructors; (2) to assist in recruit and in-service training; (3) to provide insight into the history, philosophy, and evolution of past and present correctional systems; (4) to be an instructional guide to correctional officer job skills; (5) to provide information to the officer concerning the social/economic/educational characteristics of inmates; (6) to give the officer information on positive traits and characteristics needed to maintain a successful career in corrections; and (7) to give insight into the future of corrections and the skills that will be needed. Each chapter includes a summary, review questions, and terms/concepts. Figures, references, appendixes, index
