This is a report prepared by the General Accounting Office detailing the use by Federal agencies of funding allocated for underage drinking prevention programs.
Abstract
At the request of the House of Representatives, Committee on Government Reform, Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources, the General Accounting Office reviewed fiscal year 2000 data in order to determine 1) the amount of funds appropriated in that fiscal year that were targeted or related to programs designed to prevent underage drinking, and 2) of those funded programs, how many included media campaigns to discourage underage drinking. The information contained in the review was based upon the submission of the 23 Federal agencies whose funding and programs met the review criteria. The information is presented in three main appendices. Appendix I includes the description of the 23 reviewed Federal agencies and an overview of each agency’s reviewed program(s). Appendix II includes an overview of fiscal year 2000 underage drinking prevention funding by agency and also specifies how much of that funding was designated to underage drinking only, as opposed to funding that targeted several drugs or was routed to a program designed to reduce alcohol use in the broader population. Appendix III includes a summary by agency of the number of programs that utilized a media component. Notes, appendices, tables, and figures
