CCJB responsibilities are to advise on the development and operation of local pretrial services and community-based probation programs and services; assist community agencies and organizations in establishing and modifying offender programs and services based on objective assessment; evaluation and monitoring of community programs; guide local programs in accordance with State guidelines and standards; review the submission of all criminal justice grants; and facilitate local involvement and flexibility in responding to crime. The Colonial Community Criminal Justice Board (CCCJB), established in 1995, is a regional board that serves six localities. Some CCCJB projects have included the development of a satellite office; implementation of a prerelease and post-incarceration program that provides temporary housing, education, and employment services to individuals transitioning from jail; and coordinating the development and implementation of free parenting classes for offenders. A review of obstacles and public participation yields a recommendation that CCCJB membership should include representatives from those organizations from whom the CCCJB will be making requests. Further, there should be continual planning and evaluation in order to sustain productivity and commitment.
