This newsletter for emergency responders presents information, resources, and articles on emergency management, with a focus on WMD (weapons of mass destruction) incidents.
Abstract
The newsletter first announces that the Standardized Equipment List, a publication of the Inter-Agency Board for Equipment Standardization and Interoperability, is now available on the Common Communication Link (CCL) of the National Domestic Preparedness Office (NDPO). This is followed by a notice that H.R. 4210 has been approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. This bill recommends a White House Office of Terrorism Preparedness to help coordinate Federal, State, and local efforts against WMD; the bill must still be approved by the Senate and the President. This is followed by a listing of 34 websites that contain resources on medical and emergency responses to WMD incidents. An editorial then discusses the planning, preparation, and practice required for conducting a training exercise in response to a hazardous-materials incident. The newsletter also announces the NDPO's next "chat session" on the Law Enforcement Online (LEO) for July 25, 2000, with the tentative subject to be bioterrorism preparedness and the health community. The newsletter concludes with a reminder to use the NDPO newsgroups on the CCL; they are designed to promote the exchange of ideas on WMD training, exercises, information-sharing, health/medical issues, equipment, and planning.
