This is the first annual report (July 1, 2001-June 30, 2002) to present performance-based data for the 20 residential treatment programs providing services to Connecticut's youth under the jurisdiction of the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
Abstract
These 20 residential programs have a licensed bed capacity of 1,044 and provide services under 3 program types: substance abuse, juvenile justice, and psychiatric. Information on the program is presented in both aggregate form and by each of the three program types. Information is provided on the number of cases open on July 1, 2001, the number of admissions, total cases served, cases ended, and cases open June 30, 2002. Demographic data on residents address age, gender, ethnicity, and family type. Time in care and DCF status are also indicated. The number of residents under various types of primary diagnoses are presented, along with discharge data, the number in various types of placement at admission and upon discharge, reason for discharge, reason for delay in discharge, and discharge status. Among the notable data in this report are that 1,501 youth were served in DCF licensed residential treatment centers; 70 percent of children were discharged with a successful course of treatment; 62 percent of children were discharged to a family setting; 24 percent of children entered residential treatment from detention or Connecticut Juvenile Training School/Long Lane; 12 percent of youth were discharged to detention or Connecticut Juvenile Training School/Long Lane; and 55 percent of youth served were diagnosed with a behavior disorder.
