The use of the illegal drug marijuana declined in the United States after the 1970's and rose sharply in the 1990's. Marijuana continues to be the most widely used illegal drug and the major drug of choice for those born since 1982. In an attempt to help adults, families, and communities understand marijuana as an illegal drug and mobilize prevention efforts, this multi-media presentation provides useful information on the latest facts about marijuana, its effects, and efforts being undertaken in prevention and treatment. In the video presentation, experts dispel the myths that everybody is using marijuana, as well as the claim that it is harmless. Factors are identified in the individual, the family, peers, and popular culture making youth more or less likely to use marijuana. Stories are shared from young people in treatment for marijuana use. The booklet answers 11 specific questions providing facts about marijuana itself, the reasons behind marijuana use, those who use it, changes in use over the years, and mental and health effects, immediate and over time.
