Corruption hides in governments that are not open to public comment or scrutiny; corruption is exposed and ultimately dies in governments that strive toward transparency and integrity. Globalization, as an inevitability of our modern world, plays a role in the fight against corruption by exposing corrupt practices and unifying the world against insidious corruption at all levels. The fight against corruption must take place on the global level, with international players working together in the continual struggle to root out corrupt governmental practices. In this article, the author examines the efforts to devise a national strategy to fight corruption in Colombia, which has made anti-corruption reforms one of its policy priorities. The Government of Colombia, recognizing that it needed help on the global level, contacted the Centre for International Crime Prevention for assistance with its anti-corruption strategy. The outcome was the formation of a national integrity committee designed to address institutional weaknesses that foster corruption at the local level.
