The work of intervening with children of addicted parents must be guided by a core set of values and philosophical orientation and built by a consensus among program developers, researchers, psychologists, and program managers. In addition to these values and philosophy, these treating professionals need the resources to follow through with program development. This comprehensive resource kit contains all the information and materials needed to administer a children’s program for those children who have addicted parents. The kit is comprised of several components consisting of a curriculum notebook, videotapes, counter card and poster, and handout forms on diskette. The curriculum notebook is divided into five sections, each detailing the materials it contains and how to use them. The sections include: (1) overview; (2) program inservices; (3) strategies and tools for therapists to use with clients; (4) program curriculum; and (5) resources. Three videotapes are also part of the compendium kit. The first helps young children understand the circumstances of families faced with addiction and the feelings of rejection experienced by these children. The second, targeting middle school and high school-aged youth, helps young people realize the importance of bonding and the need for trust and insight into family addiction. The final videotape is targeted for adults interested in being helpful to children who have addicted parents, offering information on the needs of children and addicted parents, a rationale for addressing their needs, information about educational support groups, and messages from children and parents who have benefited from these groups.
