This guidebook was prepared by the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) for friends and family members of inmates.
Abstract
General guidance is provided for the management of the ADC, programs and services available to inmates, the release process, and community supervision. In the section about the management of the ADC, jail intake and reception procedures are discussed and the ADC’s classification system is explained. Other topics include time computation, discipline and detention, protective segregation, interstate corrections compact, and private prisons. The section on programs and services available to inmates and their families describes visitation and telephone privileges, mail, inmates trust accounts, work programs, education programs, substance abuse programs, health services, emergency escorted visits, and the family assistance program. The family assistance program provides assistance to inmates’ families by coordinating parent/child visits, arranging for car pooling services and other transportation for family visits to prisons, and by helping families learn about government programs and services. ADC addresses and phone numbers are included in the guidebook, as well as a locator map of the Arizona State Prison Complex. The guidebook is available free of charge on the ADC Web site or from the ADC Central Office. Inmates may view the guidebook in any inmate library or purchase the guidebook for $1.00 from any inmate store.
