This report describes the Reports of Automated Data Applied to Reintegration (RADAR) developed by the Correctional Service of Canada to provide Offender Management System (OMS) data that would assist management and staff in quickly obtaining information on specific offender-related issues.
Abstract
In the 1990's, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) developed the Offender Management System (OMS) to identify key process areas, such as timeliness of initial offender intake assessment or the time required to identify offender needs and timely placement into appropriate correctional programs. It is a comprehensive database capturing information on offenders and their reintegration processes. However, in order to help management and staff better manage their work and have staff participation in the areas of needs identification, design, development, testing, and release, it is necessary to provide specifically designed extracts of OMS data in an informative manner. In response, the Reports of Automated Data Applied to Reintegration (RADAR) was developed. This article describes the development and implementation of RADAR. RADAR is a collection of reports that provide management and staff with information focused on offenders and milestones within the correctional planning process. A key success factor for RADAR is the ease of use, ease of navigation, and the utility of information that was incorporated into the design of the reports.
