This report presents revisions to the requirements of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Standard-0112.03: Autoloading Pistols for Police Officers, dated November 1998.
Abstract
The revisions clarify and update the NIJ standards for autoloading pistols for police officers. Changes include either additions or deletions for eight sections of the NIJ Standard-0112.03. Affected sections are section 5 on testing methods; section 5.5.3.a and b, the trigger pull test; section 5.5.6, the magazine test; section 5.6.1, the model qualification firing test; section 5.7, the drop safety test; and section 5.8, the drop function test. A section 6 has been added to the NIJ Standards; Section 6 provides the requirements for data collection and reporting, including data storage, data recording, and the requirements of test reports. Briefly, all test data must be archived by the test laboratory for a minimum of 1 year following the compliance test series and all test data and activities should be recorded in sufficient detail as to allow for the test to be reconstructed. The requirements of the minimum support documentation are enumerated and include the Compliance Test Report Form and photographs of the fully assembled and field stripped autoloading pistol.
