This book presents several contributions from both German and Chinese participants in the 2003 Sino-German symposium examining the two countries legislative and judicial systems, specifically compulsory measures in the investigation of crime.
Abstract
This book contains 14 articles from symposium contributors that provide different interests and theoretical perspectives on compulsory measures. Compulsory measures are one of the important issues in criminal justice systems and are related not only to the effectiveness of investigations, but also to the protection of an individual’s right to liberty during the prosecution and court process. It is a key issue of legal system reform. In 2003, a symposium on Sino-German Compulsory Systems was held in order to exchange experiences of the two countries, China and Germany and their legislative and judicial systems. This symposium on compulsory measures in the investigation of crime and corresponding powers of prosecution and police during the investigative stage of criminal proceedings dealt with topics that are growing in policy and scientific relevance. Participants of the symposium came from both China and Germany. The symposium and its results demonstrate that scientific co-operation between China and Germany has developed considerably. References
