This document presents the 2004 Annual Report of the Federal Judicial Center.
Abstract
Highlights of the work accomplished by the Federal Judicial Center in 2004 include the completion of 16 major research and evaluation projects and 14 published or updated reports. The mission, governance, organization, and staffing of the Federal Judicial Center are described; the main goal of the Center is to enhance the development and adoption of improved judicial administration within Federal courts. Accomplishments in training and education during 2004 are enumerated and include continuing education programs for district judges and small seminars for groups of judges on particular topics, some lasting 2 or 3 days. Educational programs and materials for court staff are also discussed and include leadership and court management programs and orientation workshops for new court officers. Research conducted by the Center during 2004 is described and includes research in the areas of criminal litigation, civil litigation, and judicial conduct and disability. The Federal judicial history is reviewed and a listing of resources is offered on publications, the Federal Judicial Television Network, the Media Library, and information services.
