Abstract
The Armiger Police Training Institute in Florida has developed a product called the Safe-T-Bang, a device that simulates an actual noise-flash diversionary device, but without the dangerous effects such as fire. Dummies Unlimited, Inc., of California manufactures some 20 types of dummies, each with variations. For police training, dummies can be used for training in baton striking, firearms, arrest and control, agility, and forensics situations. The Nasco company of Wisconsin provides educational and training facilities with a variety of health care products that are ideal for police training in first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Realistic CPR manikins are designed to allow for the practice of the Heimlich maneuver (abdominal thrusts) as well as CPR mouth-to-mouth breathing. The No Lie company of California manufactures training knives for self-defense training that are exact replicas of real knives in weight, appearance, and feel; the cutting edge and tip, however, are industrial-grade felt that can receive applications of a marking solution that shows where a blade strike has landed on the body. PDT Tech of California provides a variety of self-supporting, portable, modular structures that simulate an urban environment. These can be used in conjunction with training exercises that involve encounters in such surroundings. Other training products described are a Forensic Wound Simulation Kit, a film that fits inside any SCBA mask to provide a realistic simulation of a smoky environment, clothing and equipment that allows for simulated use-of-force encounters, and remote control robots that facilitate providing moving targets on firing ranges.
