The theme for the Third Annual National Youth Court Month, Serving Communities-Changing Lives addressed two very important aspects in youth courts: (1) youth volunteers in youth courts serving their communities by becoming participatory members, in conjunction with juvenile justice and school professionals to identify problems and develop solutions and (2) youth who have committed minor delinquent and status offenses and are engaging in problem behaviors are offered an effective alternative to the traditional juvenile justice and school disciplinary systems. Each youth court can relate a story of the positive impact it has had on individuals and their communities. This report was prepared, in order to provide a forum to share these stories. The report illustrates success stories from volunteers, respondents, staff, and parents of what youth court programs offer to the country’s youth, families, and communities.
