Abstract
In the last 50 years, law enforcement has undergone a series of evolutionary steps, from minimal training to highly trained and equipped with advanced technology. The professional model of policing, as well as the public’s expectations have exerted influence over this evolutionary process. This has prompted a rethinking of the need for higher education in law enforcement. The role of law enforcement has expanded where being a competent police officer and understanding basic police operations may not be sufficient to meet current challenges on the expectations of the communities. The challenge is how to obtain a meaningful education, relatively quickly. Online education has expanded rapidly over the last several years to address the needs of nontraditional students. However, online education is seen as more demanding and academically challenging to the student.
