This article examines new technological enhancements and capabilities of mobile command units in law enforcement.
Abstract
Many of the new technologies and innovations that are being implemented in mobile command vehicles enhance the effectiveness of units and the operations they assist. These enhancements range from satellite down links that provide high-speed Internet and video to interoperable system which allow communication with any type of radio. This article describes enhancements to the bodies of the mobile command vehicles that house the equipment, radio communications interoperability, the flow and dissemination of information or data, and the transmission of video and improvements in video systems. The article concludes with considerations that should be taken into account when purchasing a mobile command unit which include monetary or budget situations and tapping into the experiences and expertise of other departments with mobile command units.
