Abstract
Today’s law enforcement training simulators present exciting, unique, and realistic training systems that have increasingly sophisticated capabilities. The versatile nature of training simulators and their potential for law enforcement use is discussed, followed by examples of how instructors may utilize training simulators. The latest training simulators go far beyond teaching officers about the use of lethal force; many have the capability to teach critical incident management, administration, and public safety protocols. The market for training simulators is growing and the latest innovations allow law enforcement agencies to program their own scenarios into the systems, dramatically increasing the flexibility and potential of these training technologies. The author reviews many of the training simulators currently on the market and discusses future innovations expected to improve training simulations even further. Projected innovations include presentation software that will allow users to operate their simulation systems as virtual white boards, projecting notes and other items into a training simulation in real-time. Simulators are also expected to be used by attorneys as presentation platforms. Exhibits
