Overall, the results suggest that the AAPI-2 appears to be measuring at least two of the constructs it claims to measure, providing evidence that it may be useful as a child abuse screening tool for adult and adolescent parents. However, the authors caution that the factor structure reported by the developer of the AAPI-2 was not fully confirmed in this sample. Participants were 309 low-income families recruited from Head Start programs in rural Arkansas. Home interviews were conducted to assess parenting behaviors and attitudes and child and family characteristics. Parents completed a number of measurement instruments including the AAPI-2, the Home Observations for the Measurement of the Environment, the Parental Discipline Methods Interview, and the Preschool and Kindergarten Behavior Scales. Analysis of the AAPI-2 involved Confirmatory Factor Analysis and exploratory factor analysis. Additional validation studies are needed using larger samples and samples from a variety of populations.
