This 2005 Annual Report of the Crime Prevention Coalition of America (Coalition) describes the Federal, State, and local crime prevention efforts undertaken by member organizations.
Abstract
According to statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), violent crimes declined 2.2 percent in 2004. The Coalition has assisted in bringing down violent crime rates by linking the knowledge and strategies of groups across the country, ranging from local Neighborhood Watch groups to large national nonprofit organizations. During October 2005, the National Crime Prevention Council, in partnership with the Coalition, convened the 7th National Conference on Prevention Crime: Power of Prevention, which provided a forum for practitioners across the country to learn from one another. Crime prevention program profiles from Coalition member organizations are presented, highlighting the variety and range of crime prevention programming implemented throughout the United States. Citizen corps programs, national programs, and State programs are described, including the Community/Police Partnership program of the Bath, Maine Police Department; the Niagara Falls Block Club Council; the Auxiliary Police Unit of Fairfax County, VA; Washington, DC's Metro Citizen Corps; the Creating Safe Passage for Students Program in Los Angeles; and the Ohio Crime Prevention Association. Each description presents the focus of the program, program achievements, and contact information. Membership listings are presented for the Coalition's Executive Committee, staff, and members.
