This article describes a data-loss prevention solution offered by McAfee, Inc., that monitors and protects proprietary and confidential information, including intellectual property, legal and financial documentation, and personal information.
Abstract
Threats can attack a network from an array of sources. In order to protect an entire network, the agency must establish a comprehensive security risk management strategy that includes multiple threat prevention capabilities, such as antivirus, intrusion prevention, and antispyware. They must be integrated with compliance management capabilities such as policy enforcement, vulnerability remedies, network access control, audit, and data loss prevention. McAfee offers a technology that does this. It provides universal protection that prevents confidential data loss through the broadest set of communication channels, including e-mail, message-board posts, and printing. This content-aware data protection guards against the transmission of sensitive data even if it is copied and pasted, screen-captured from the original source, or zipped or encrypted. By protecting information at the source rather than the conduit, an agency can ensure that the information stays secure whether or not the computer is connected to the Internet. This host-based security consists of a software program that resides on an individual device, such as a server, desktop computer, or a laptop. The program inspects traffic that flows into or out of that particular device in order to protect it against threats.
