Results indicated that the English-language PVPPI is equivalent to the original French version in terms of item formation, meaning, and psychometric properties. Additionally, the internal consistency was significantly similar for both versions of the PVPPI and the indices of construct validity were very similar to those reported in the original validation study of the French PVPPI. On the other hand, the English-language Parental Disorganization scale exhibited some differences with the original in terms of reliability and validity and the internal consistency was slightly weaker than it was in the original French version. In terms of methods used for translation and instrument validation, the translation procedure followed the parallel back-translation procedure in order to maximize the similarity between the French and English versions of the PVPPI. This involved translating the French PVPPI into English by two independent translators. Next, two different translators back-translated each English PVPPI back into French. The process resulted in one experimental English-language version of the PVPPI. Additional research is urged to provide further support for the validity of the English-language PVPPI. This English-language PVPPI was administered to a non-probabilistic sample of 90 fifth and sixth grade students recruited from 2 English speaking public schools in the Quebec City area. Students also completed the Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scale and the Scale of Negative Feelings. Data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 for Windows and consisted of the use of Cronbach’s alpha and Pearson’s r calculations. Limitations of the study are discussed and include its small sample size.
