The strategic plan focuses on enhancing the administration of justice; broadening access to justice and service to the public; promoting competence, professionalism, and civility; improving court facilities and technology; and building trust and confidence. In working toward these objectives, in 2006 the courts focused on providing more and improved information for the public about court services. This was done through public forums held at various locations, public-satisfaction surveys, the installation of information kiosks throughout the courthouse, the expanded use of the courts' use of the Internet, and the opening of self-service and information centers in the courts' operating divisions. The DC courts continued to modernize and improve physical facilities in order to accommodate the needs of the public and provide a safe environment. Significant progress was made in implementing the Master Plan for Judiciary Square, including restoration of the historic Old DC Courthouse, the future site of the DC Court of Appeals, and redesigning courthouse entrances and space in order to permit easier and direct access to certain courts. This report provides data on the budget and finances of the courts and statistics for 2002-2006 on court cases and activities. The latter address the Court of Appeals and the Superior Court. Data for the Superior Court encompass the civil and criminal divisions, the Domestic Violence Unit, the Family Court, multidoor dispute resolution, the Probate Division, and the Special Operations Division.
