Highlights of the report include the following: (1) Hawaii’s Index Crime rate decreased slightly in 2005, down 0.3 percent from 2004; (2) a total of 64,067 Index Crimes were reported statewide in 2005; (3) the rate of reported offenses for the violent Index Crimes of murder and forcible rape decreased 25.0 percent, and 15.0 percent respectively in 2005; (4) adult arrests comprised 74.0 percent of all Index Crime arrests in 2005, juvenile arrests accounted for 26.0 percent; (5) 25 murders were reported statewide in 2005, down from 33 reported in 2004; (6) over $106 million in property value was reported stolen in 2005; and (7) in 2005, 288 assaults on Hawaii’s police officers were recorded ( a rate of 10.3 assaults per 100 officers). The statistics reported in this report are collected and compiled by Hawaii’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program which is housed in the Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division. The State-level UCR program’s purpose is to collect data from local law enforcement agencies and assure compliance with standards developed jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
