Annotation: This report presents a summary of the nature and extent of the crimes reported by local criminal justice agencies to the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program for 2006.
Abstract: Report highlights include: (1) in 2006, a total of 183,802 crimes were reported, a 3 percent decrease from 2005; (2) a crime rate for the State of 3996.5 per 100,000 inhabitants; (3) on a daily average, there were 504 Part 1 offenses reported; (4) $221,604,848 in total property value stolen with 17 percent recovered; and (5) 318 law enforcement officers assaulted; (6) a total of 24,876 persons arrested for Part 1 offenses; (7) 17,365 people arrested for narcotic drug violations with 7 percent for sale and 93 percent for possession; (8) 164,810 property crimes reported; (9) 18,992 violent crimes reported; (10) 6,521 people arrested for violent crimes with 88 percent adults, 31 percent White and 83 percent male; (11) 353 homicides representing a 7 percent increase over 2005; (12) 6,564 robberies, a 7 percent increase over 2005; and (13) 110,678 larcenies, a 4 percent decrease from 2005. This report is a composite picture of crime and law enforcement activity in Alabama for 2006; provided by the Uniform Crime Reporting section (UCR) of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center. The report provides a breakdown for the State and localities participating in the UCR program. It concentrates on the Index Crime of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI’s) Part 1 Offenses (homicide, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson) and offers tabular and narrative formats for comparisons, trends, rates, and percent changes.
