The State of Washington’s Department of Corrections is legally responsible for inmates housed out-of-State. The total number of Washington State inmates for whom the department is responsible is 18,132. This Budget Resource Management publication for fiscal year 2008 provides information in tabulated format on the State of Washington’s Department of Corrections, its facilities, its offender characteristics, and its population movement and custody as of September 30, 2007. Under population of adult corrections facilities, average daily population and capacity by month, and female average daily population and capacity by month are explained. Characteristics of residents, facilities, and work release are annotated including distributions by race and ethnicity, by military service, of offense by location, by violent crime convictions among inmates serving Washington State sentences, by age category including average age, by race and ethnicity for female inmates, by county of convictions, of offense by race and ethnicity, by race and ethnicity of offenders currently housed in rented beds out-of-State, and of all inmates location by risk management type. Information regarding admission to facilities include: by month, type of admission, and sex; by type of admission and county of conviction; by age at admission, race, ethnicity, and sex; by county of conviction, race, and ethnicity; and by offense and type of admission. Releases from facilities are categorized by information on timeframe; types of release; sex of offender; ethnicity of offenders; length of stay; and by category of: admission, special sentences, offense for new admission, offense for readmission, offense for Work Ethic Program (WEP) graduate, and for Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative (DOSA) offenders. Custody distributions of residents within facilities are classified by location; by population assignment and sex; by sex and score; by override reason and score; and by risk management type.
