Two funding announcements for research opportunities are described in this material. The purpose of the first was to assist State and local law enforcement agencies in enhancing their investigative response to computer-facilitated sexual exploitation of children by offenders using the Internet, online communications systems, or other technology. This refers to any computer-facilitated sexual exploitation of children and included online solicitation and child pornography. The purpose of the second announcement was to provide funding for the continuation of the OJJDP’s Missing and Exploited Children Training and Technical Assistance Program. Because of the wide range of funding opportunities in FY 1998 and their various requirements and deadlines, OJJDP initiated a new process. Separate announcements were published for each program under which funding was available. These program announcements addressed the programs’ nature and purpose, specify eligibility requirements and selection criteria, and identify deadlines and contact information. The program announcements did not include application materials. Application instructions, forms, and review guidelines for all OJJDP funding opportunities were provided in the FY 1998 OJJDP Application Kit. References
