Regarding strategies, practices, and lessons for urban areas, three papers address national strategies that foster local action (Chile, Peru, and Belgium); the tailoring of city strategies to local needs (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Manila, the Philippines; and Sao Paulo, Brazil); and the use of social inclusion and volunteer partnerships in responding to urban challenges. The section on strategies, practices, and lessons for youth at risk focuses on integrated and effective strategies, inclusive approaches for vulnerable youth, and capacity building and technical assistance for the future. Examples of integrated and effective strategies include prevention programs for youth in England and Wales, the Pathways to Prevention Project in Australia, and the Draft National Policy on Child Justice Administration in Nigeria. The three papers on inclusive approaches for vulnerable youth address the combating of tracking of youth for sexual exploitation in the Czech Republic, the increasing involvement of children and youth in organized armed violence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and support for urban youth at Risk in Japan. The three papers on capacity-building and technical assistance for the future describe the local crime-prevention “toolkit” used in some African countries, training needs and technical assistance for urban crime prevention, and the shape of future technical assistance.
