This brochure informs incarcerated parents in Texas about what they need to do regarding their children‘s support while in prison, how to handle their child-support cases when they are incarcerated, and what to do about child support when they are released from prison.
Abstract
The brochure first lists the various types of assistance that the Texas Attorney General’s Office provides through its Child Support Division. The services of this division include establishing paternity (legal fatherhood), management for court orders for children’s financial and medical support, enforcing child-support orders, and distributing support payments. The brochure also poses and answers frequently asked questions about child support. These include questions about child-support obligations while in prison, the receipt of child-support payments while in prison and how they should be used, and circumstances under which a court-appointed attorney will be provided at a child-support hearing. The brochure also poses and answers questions about paternity issues, custody and visitation disputes, and child support issues after release from incarceration. Various terms used in child-support cases are listed and defined.
