Bias-motivated crimes demand a priority response because of their special impact on the victim and the victim’s community. The urgent national need for tough law enforcement response as well as education and programming to confront violent bigotry has only increased over the past years. Staff members in the field of the ADL closely track hate crime, study the trends in this criminal activity and craft programs and initiatives to reduce prejudice, improve the response of the criminal justice system to hate crime, and aid the victims of these serious incidents. A compilation of national and community model ADL programs and initiatives are presented in this report. These programs and initiatives can be implemented and replicated across the country and are presented in the areas of combating bias and promoting diversity, reaching at-risk youth and juvenile hate crime offenders, training law enforcement, combating bigotry on college campuses, combating prejudice in the community, building police-community partnerships, counteracting hate crimes in the military, and working with victims.
