The Israel Ministry of Public Security consists of two executive arms: the Israel Police and Israel Prison Service. The Ministry of Public Security is responsible for the personal security of Israeli citizens, for the public order and law enforcement. Much of the activity of the Ministry of Public Security involves work with children and youth and is designed to promote their personal development, making a significant contribution to public security in Israeli society. The Ministry of Justice publishes the journal, Innovation Exchange. This issue presents the extent to which the Israel Police and the Israel Prison Service interact with youth. Seventeen articles are presented under the headings of the Ministry, Policing, and Corrections: Prison Service. These include six articles for the Ministry covering the Ministry’s organizational structure, the empowerment of young citizens under Metzila, the Community and Crime Prevention Division of the Ministry of Public Security, a project in which youth are actively involved in raising dogs to serve national security, and a national program offering a working model for coping with violence on the urban, systemic level; seven articles for policing focusing on the YAMAM Israel Police Counter Terrorism Unit, the national training center, the Young Detectives Club, National DNA Databank, and new National Crime Unit, and the Applications and Project Management Department (technological arm of the Israel Police); and four articles for corrections (Israel Prison Service) covering the Israel Prison Service (IPS) training center at Nir, alcohol treatment program, the Straight Talk about Drinking program operated at the Alcoholism Treatment Department in the Hermon Prison’s House of Hope, the development and implementation of the IPS, Unit for Monitoring Sex Offenders, and the creative treatment methods used at Ofek Prison, Israel’s only prison for adolescents.
