Results of the review indicate that good progress has been made in implementing most of the recommendations and in reforming the way in which sexual offenses are investigated and prosecuted in Queensland. The review states that the Queensland Police Service (QPS) has made significant inroads into the implementation of reforms to improve the handling of sexual offenses. However, the reform process, specifically the training of staff, will take some time to be fully embedded throughout the QPS. The review of the Queensland Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) shows that ODPP still has work to do in several noted areas related to training, procedure development and implementation, and promoting consistency. The report concludes with two recommendations for future action to ensure that both the QPS and the ODPP remain focused on how they handle sexual offenses and continue to work together to improve the system. In June 2003, the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) completed an inquiry into the handling of sexual offense matters by the QPS and the ODPP. This inquiry resulted in a report which included 24 recommendations, 23 of which advocated changes to various processes relating to the handling of sexual offenses. A review was then conducted on the implementation of the 23 recommendations. This report presents the results of the review. Appendixes and references
